I finally read this series over the summer, and agree with what's been said about the last one- too violent, unnecessary details in the wrong places. As far as the slaves go, I realized that if he had rescued the slaves, he would have given his cover away before he was able to get into the caves and slay the Razac- thus the 'necessary' sacrifice. I think the whole Sloan thing added a lot of unnecessary length to the book.

All in all, I enjoyed the series and plan to read the 4th book. But, I sure did a lot of skipping in the 3rd one.

FatalisFortuna - Merry Christmas to you too! I can see your point. It does seem strange that Eragon can't save the slaves, but saves Sloan?!? Sloan has always bugged me. Really I would have been fine if Sloan had never appeared again. Perhaps the slave rescue would have taken too long and the book is long enough (not that I'm justifying letting them die), but yeah it's weird. I don't have the book anymore so I can't re-read that section.

Beth - Thanks for stopping by!

Suey - I agree that Trial of the Long Knives is hard to get through. I liked the story though even with all the flaws.

Fate Fortuna - I know a lot of people said this one dragged way too much and some people couldn't finish it. I found the part about him not being able to leave Sloan or kill him, very odd. I thought he wanted to save the slaves and planned on it, but was too late? Am I wrong? If so yeah that would seem very weird.

I'm afraid I only got about sixty pages into the book. I loved the first two, but this one bored me to tears! It was like reading a fantasy RPG guide. Also, what's up with Eragon being able to leave several slaves to die with no problem, but not being able to kill a man who betrayed him and his family? Since I gave up after those sixty pages, though, I can't give much of an opinion on the violence.

I did have a hard time reading through the Trial of the Long Knives part. It was awful! Yes, this does have a ton of violence, yes, it dragged it parts... but still, I loved it!
